The word passion, or in particular, finding your career passion, is a term which is widely thrown around these days. We are often being urged to find that special thing in life, the thing that we would jump out of bed to do, or the job we would do even if we were not paid for it!
When working with my Life and Confidence Coaching clients, whether it is in face to face sessions or via skype or phone, I like to explain what the word passion really means. I also speak about this regularly on the professional speaking circuit or when running workshops in organisations. To me, a passion is anything that brings out your authenticity or what I call 'who you really are'. It doesn't mean this is restricted to just one thing or one gift that you hold within you. It just means the things that make you feel good or create a feeling of wellbeing within you. Inside of you is the best emotional guidance system you will ever have. This guidance system tells you, through your emotions, when you are being 'who you really are' or when you are stepping away from being the all deserving, worthy and fabulous human being that you truly are. To put it more clearly, your passion is anything that feels good to you and brings you positive emotion. When public speaking, I like to call this the things that make you feel frisky! Yes, there will be varying degrees of positive emotion, but the most important thing to focus on is not finding that passion, but finding anything that makes you feel good or brings you a feeling of wellbeing. People often come for coaching complaining they 'can't find their passion in life'. Unfortunately, focussing on 'not finding your passion' will only create more of 'not finding you passion'. Remember, the law of attraction will always return to you a mirror image of what you are thinking and feeling. As a result, they often put pressure on themselves for beat themselves up for not finding their passion in life and then just end up giving up on their dreams as it alls feel too difficult or too hard. The quickest and easiest way to find your passion in life, is to simply and gently, focus on feeling good each day. Make your personal wellbeing the most important thing. Do things each day that create a feeling of wellbeing inside of you and by doing so, the stream will flow you naturally in the direction of whatever you desire and your passion will become clear to you through the clarity that you feel. I don't just mean taking an hour each week to have a massage or go to the gym, I mean making it your main intent each morning to look after your own wellbeing and look for things to feel good about. This includes a refusal to put up with anything that doesn't feel good and training your thoughts and expectations to only allow good things to flow into your life. It sounds too easy doesn't it - but it can take some focus. By focus I mean learning to tune your thoughts and vibration into a frequency that feels good to you. Remember, your emotional guidance is really your GPS to tune into this each day and let your passion and feelings of wellbeing be attracted to you. In this final video clip from The Love Destination, Lisa shares how important it is to care about your own personal preferences and take care of your own emotional wellness. For more information please see www.amazingcoaching.com.au and www.howtoempoweryourstaff.com Whether I am public speaking, running workshops or working with my Life or Confidence Coaching clients, I talk about the importance of your own authentic stream in life. For more information on my stream process please refer to http://www.amazingcoaching.com.au/why-your-life-is-like-a-flowing-stream/
Have you ever asked yourself 'What stream am I on?'. These days, particularly on social media, such as LinkedIn and Facebook, we are bombarded with courses we should attend, behaviours we should copy in order to become successful or events we should go to in order to achieve the success we desire. These often cost thousands of dollars. However, have you ever checked in with yourself to see if these ideas are actually on your own stream? Yes, it may seem like the road to success - but is it your preferred road to success? Or using the stream adage, is it on your stream - or someone else's? You see, each one of us has our own stream, one that is filled with our own preferences in life. Our own stream is unique and when we learn to tune in and follow our unique preferences, it will always feel good to us. When we do this, we are on our own authentic stream. 15 years ago, after completing my Life and Workplace Coaching accreditations, it was time to start up my own business. However, rather than checking into my own stream to identify what my unique personal preferences are, I watched what everyone else was doing. I followed successful coaches, spoke to people and tried to work out what route I should take to becoming a successful coach. As a result, I decided to became a business coach. I did this because it was what everyone else was doing. I did it because I came across a course that told me that it was going to be easy and that I would attract lots of high paying clients. While I followed this path, I set up a business coaching website and away I went. 12 months later I had attracted one client and was quickly losing interest in coaching. The truth was, that instead of listening to my own guidance on my own stream, I was tuning into everyone else's stream. Or let me say, I had decided to go 'mainstream' rather than my own unique stream. As a result, it never felt good to me. In my own words, it felt like an uphill struggle. I see this frequently with my Life and Confidence Coach clients. Instead of tuning into their own preferences, they tag on to the next big idea that is sold to them. As a result, they often feel disappointed. You see, when you don't listen to your own stream and choose to step onto someone else's stream, it will never feel as good to you. Why? Because it may not fit with your own personal unique preferences. Take a few minutes to think about your life now, are you on your own stream or are you in someone else's? What are you doing that you feel you should do, just because someone told you to do? Are you marketing your business in a way that you have been told will work or are you tuning into your own guidance to see what will work for you? Look at the work you do each day in your business. What parts of it feel good to you? Which bits don't? Once you identify the parts that don't - could this be because you are doing what someone else told you to do rather than what you feel is the right thing to do? If this is the case then I urge you to tune into your own stream and listen to your own guidance rather than listening to the guidance of other experts. Regardless of what anyone else thinks, follow your own stream. If attending a course or an event feels good to you and on your stream then do it. However, if it doesn't, then listen to your guidance and stay on your own stream. Trust your guidance and be authentic to yourself. Lisa Phillips is an award winning Life and Confidence Coach based in Sydney. Lisa works with individuals and organisations to assist them in feeling good on their own stream. Lisa is also a popular public speaker and the author of 'The Confidence Coach' (Exile Publishing). To find out more please see www.amazingcoaching.com.au When working with my Life and Confidence Coaching Clients or Professional Speaking, I often talk about the need for people to seek approval from other people. This could be at work, at home, with friends or even with complete strangers! Unfortunately, many of us work hard to gain this illusive approval, becoming people pleasers or turning ourselves inside out in the hope that other people will approve of us.
In doing this, we forget our own needs, our own wants and shove them to the side. We say Yes when we really want to say No and we end up agreeing to do all sorts of things we may not want to do. Gaining approval becomes an addiction, the 'hit' that we want so desperately to receive from other people. I see this a lot with staff at work, when they are desperately waiting for their boss to give them some praise or give some indication that they approve of the work they are doing. Only when we receive approval do we then feel accomplished, that we have done a good job, or feel like a good person. This idea of seeking of approval from others however, is fatally flawed. You see, we can never rely on the approval from others. They have their own lives, their own stuff going on and may not even consider the importance of 'approving of you'. As a result, when we don't receive the approval we crave, we can become upset, frustrated and feel like a failure. Seeking approval from others never works as you are seeking a positive emotion from other people (outside of you) instead of finding it inside of yourself. The key is to start approving of yourself. Give yourself the approval and acknowledgement you desire rather than craving it from other people. It can take a little time, but when you build momentum up on this, you will no longer keep seeking it from others, as you feel it yourself. At the end of each day - why not give yourself some praise, tell yourself you have done a good job and give yourself a pat on the back - rather than waiting for someone else to tell you. This itself gives you freedom. The freedom to be you. The freedom to do as you want and the freedom to care about your own wellbeing. The freedom from the approval of other people. For more information please seewww.amazingcoaching.com.au and www.howtoempoweryourstaff.com Public Speaking is a passion of mine, and I am excited to be one of the Sydney Keynote speakers at the up and coming 'True Employee Engagement' Conference in Sydney.
http://www.arkgroupaustralia.com.au/events/trueemployeeengagement/ My keynote speech at this conference is 'The Importance of Engaging Yourself prior to Engaging Your Staff' and I am excited to share this with my audience of HR Managers and other Managers who are interested in getting the best from their team. I won't give too much away as to the contents of my keynote speech, but wanted to share with you a few thoughts to ponder. For me, if you want to inspire a high performing, engaged and happy team, you need to be an empowered and happy manager. This isn't about putting on a mask and pretending to your staff that 'all is well' in the hope that they will believe you - it is about learning to tune into your own career and making sure you are 'tuned in', tapped in and turned on' before expecting anyone else around you to do the same. At the end of the day 'Like attracts Like' and if you don't enjoy your job or couldn't care less about your own happiness at work, why should you expect your team to be engaged and empowered? The truth is, an engaged and happy team start with you. |
